Just as the majority of the interstates throughout the country carry a heavy load of commercial vehicle traffic, Michigan is no exception. As a result, there is no shortage of serious trucking accidents that often take a terrible toll on lives and property. One recent wreck involved three commercial trucks and took the life of one driver.

According to Michigan officials, the wreck occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 275 shortly before 1 p.m. The accident report stated that a tractor-trailer was traveling northbound, followed by a box truck and a car-carrying semi. For reasons that are yet unclear, the driver of the car-carrier rammed into the rear of the box truck. The collision then shoved that vehicle into the rear of the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the truck that was caught in the middle was killed in the crash. The report did not include any information relating to any other injuries that the three-vehicle wreck may have caused. The accident resulted in a section of the interstate being closed for several hours while officials conducted their investigation. A spokesperson for the police indicated that cranes may have be employed in order to remove the large vehicles from the road.

The investigation was still ongoing at last report, and it was unclear whether the driver of the car-carrier would face any charges in connection with this fatal collision. Whenever these types of trucking accidents occur, there are often serious or fatal injuries as well as significant property damage. Victims and surviving family members often sustain heavy financial losses in the days and weeks following these wrecks. The affected parties may choose to seek restitution for those documented monetary damages through the civil court system in the form of a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. A skilled attorney can provide information concerning the feasibility of filing these claims.
